These terms of use are governed by New Zealand law. You agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand in any dispute.

All actions by Te Tari Pūreke, including assessing firearms applications, are carried out according to the requirements of the Arms Act 1983.

From time to time, we may revise these terms of use and our privacy statement. Unless an urgent change is required, we will post a notice on this website about the proposed changes before they take effect.

We aim to keep the information on this website and the MyFirearms portal accurate, up to date and consistent with the Arms Act 1983 (the Act), the Arms Regulations 1992 and other associated regulations. We are not liable if you rely on incorrect or incomplete information.

You must have a RealMe account with a username and password to create a MyFirearms account. Do not share your RealMe password with anyone.

When using MyFirearms, you:

• are responsible for all activities carried out under your account
• must comply with all applicable laws, including any laws in the country in which you are accessing the service
• must provide true, current and complete information in your dealings with us, including when submitting an application or form.

When applying online you are declaring:

• you are the applicant
• you have obtained all necessary permissions, consents and approvals to submit the application, and
• all the information provided in or with your application is true, correct, accurate and current.

Using MyFirearms does not guarantee any particular outcome for an application.

If you begin an application or form and save it but do not submit it, you will be able to come back within 30 days to complete and submit it. Unsubmitted applications or forms that have not been completed and submitted within 30 days from when they were started will be deleted and you will need to start a new one.

We reserve the right to delete unsubmitted applications and forms sooner where necessary – for example, where the service is upgraded or modified. If we know in advance that earlier deletion will need to occur, we will endeavour to post a notice on this website.

We reserve all rights to suspend, discontinue, deny or restrict access to the MyFirearms service by any person at any time, at our sole discretion without notice or liability.

We reserve all rights to block access from any internet address to our online services, at any time, at our sole discretion.

Suspending, denying, discontinuing or restricting access does not remove any contractual obligations or liability you have to us or any other user.

On suspension, denial or restriction of access, you must immediately cease using the systems you have been restricted from and must not attempt to gain further access.

Payments through MyFirearms can be made using a credit or debit card (Visa or Mastercard). You will be charged a credit card surcharge of 1.9%.

We process payments using our secure payment service Spreedly and Paystation. We do not keep a record of your credit card details. These details are only held within the banking system for proof of payment purposes.

Application fees are calculated at the time of submission.

Payments are all converted to New Zealand Dollars (NZD$). We do not accept any risk or liability concerning foreign exchange rates or how these influence the amount charged to your card. If you have questions about the final amount, please contact your bank or financial provider.

It is your responsibility to make sure:

all payment details are correct you are legally entitled to make the payment • you have sufficient funds in your account.

Payments include GST

The New Zealand Government charges a Goods and Services Tax (GST) on all goods and services in New Zealand. Payments you are required to make may have GST included. You will be able to see this amount on the receipt.

You must not act in a way that will damage or interfere with the service, including:

• introducing anything malicious or technologically harmful
• placing an unreasonably large load on the system
• interfering with any Police, Te Tari Pūreke or MyFirearms service or system
• attempting to gain unauthorised access to any Police or Te Tari Pūreke systems, including the server on which our systems are stored, or any server, computer or database connected to our systems
• using the system for any unlawful purpose or breaching any third party’s rights.

You must comply with all applicable laws. You must not:

• make modifications to the service
• test, scan or circumvent the security of the service
• use any scraping, deep-linking, harvesting, or data mining robot or spider, automation, or any similar data gathering, extraction or monitoring method with respect to the service.

You must access the service via standard web browsers only, and not by any other method, unless we agree otherwise.

We use social media to share information about firearms safety in New Zealand, to enable conversations and feedback, and to be responsive to the views and needs of New Zealanders.

Our followers can expect to receive regular updates on topics including:

• has political bias
• constitutes spam

It’s important to keep yourself and your information safe when you’re online. The following tips will help you access the MyFirearms service safely.

• While you’re logged in, do not share your device or leave it unattended.
• Use a strong password that you can remember. Do not share your password with anyone. Do not reuse another password you’ve used elsewhere.
• Consider opening an InPrivate or Incognito browser window to access MyFirearms. This means that your information does not get stored on the computer once you have closed the window.
• When you’ve finished using MyFirearms, make sure you log out by clicking on your profile located at the top right of your MyFirearms page. This is most important if you’re using a public computer, such as at a library or community centre.
• If you think your computer has crashed, that does not always mean that your session has logged itself out. You should still close the browser window.
