Your legal obligations as a firearms licence holder
What changes of circumstance you must notify us about
A change of circumstance can include things like:
- change of address - residential or postal
- change of registered health practitioner or their contact details.
In order to meet your obligations as a New Zealand firearms licence holder, if you experience any of the above changes in circumstance, you must notify Te Tari Pūreke within 30 days of the change taking place.
How to notify Te Tari Pūreke of a change of address
- log into MyFirearms and update your details.

Note: If you hold an endorsement on your firearms licence and are intending to change address, you need to notify us in advance about what arrangements you have made for the safe custody of any pistol, prohibited item, prohibited magazine, or restricted weapon during your shift to the new address. To notify us before you move, log in to MyFirearms or use the Change of address form, as above.
How to notify Te Tari Pūreke of a change of health practitioner
- log into MyFirearms and update your details
- phone 0800 844 431 to speak to a Te Tari Pūreke team member.
After you notify Te Tari Pūreke
Your change of circumstance details will be updated in MyFirearms by a staff member. Provided you have validated your account, you should see the changes reflected after we have taken the appropriate steps involved and updated your account.
If any details are missing or need clarification, a member of Te Tari Pūreke will contact you directly.
Firearms Registry requirements apply from 24 June 2023
The first time you notify us of a change in your licence holder information (such as personal, business, contact or licence details) you must register all items in your possession within 30 days.
