Firearms Registry requirements apply from 24 June 2023

The first time you notify us of a change in your licence holder information (such as personal, business, contact or licence details) from 24 June 2023, you must register all items in your possession within 30 days.

Apply to be recognised to possess prohibited ammunition - collector or museum

Application form to be recognised by Police as a certain person who may possess prohibited ammunition as:

  • a bona fide collector of ammunition; or
  • a director or curator of a bona fide museum.

Apply to be recognised to possess prohibited ammunition - researcher

Application form to be recognised by Police as a certain person who may possess prohibited ammunition as:

  • a researcher of the chemical makeup of certain types of prohibited ammunition
  • a researcher employed or contracted by the New Zealand Defence Force
  • a researcher employed or contracted by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited.
