Firearms Registry requirements apply from 24 June 2023
The first time you notify us of a change in your licence holder information (such as personal, business, contact or licence details) from 24 June 2023, you must register all items in your possession within 30 days.

Application to be recognised by Police as a certain person who may possess prohibited ammunition (a bona fide collector of ammunition/ a director or curator of a bona fide museum).

Application to be recognised by Police as a certain person who may possess prohibited ammunition
- A researcher of the chemical makeup of certain types of prohibited ammunition.
- A researcher employed or contracted by the New Zealand Defence Force.
- A researcher employed or contracted by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited.
Notification of being an Ammunition Seller
Notification to self-identify to Police that you are a person who is responsible for the day-to-day management of a business that includes selling or supplying ammunition.

Notification of surrender of dealer's licence (Dealer's licence holder)
Notification to Police that you intend to or are surrendering your dealer’s licence or to surrender another person’s dealer's licence where they are not able to do so. Once completed, submit this form to firearms.NST@police.govt.nz, or deliver it to your nearest police station or arms office.

Update Health Practitioner Details
A holder of a firearms licence must inform Police if their health practitioner changes, and provide updated details of the name and contact details of their health practitioner. You can also update your health practitioner details online. Once completed, submit this form to firearms.NST@police.govt.nz, or deliver it to your nearest police station or arms office.

Health Practitioner Reporting Form
Health practitioners are required by law to notify Police of health concerns related to their patient’s firearms access, or if they have received information about a firearms licence holder who is not their patient.
